I N S C T S is an ongoing multimedia project that documents the responses insects could offer to some current global challenges. Striving for a global overview, the project focuses on both the people working towards change and those who would benefit from it.

Umberto Diecinove is a documentary photographer and filmmaker, and he works mainly for companies and institutions in Europe. He started I N S C T S in June 2022 taking pictures in research centers, universities and companies all over the world.

He was at the Texas A&M University, at Wageningen University in The Netherlands, at Kasetsart University in Thailand, at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, and at the Università di Torino in Italy. He also took pictures at the AFFIA 2023 Forum in Bangkok, at Entogreen in Portugal, Entofood in Malaysia, Orgafeed and Golden Bugs Farm in Thailand, NGN in The Netherlands and BEF Biosystems in Italy. In Colombia, he focused also on the project “Insects for Peace” that promotes the reintegration of ex guerrilla fighters, by training them to become smallholder insect producers.

During the shoots he recorded also series of audio interviews and published a podcast (“Get The Bug”) available on Spotify, Apple Podcast and all the major platforms. Twelve episodes are already on line, featuring among others: Jeffrey Tomberlin, Arnold Van Huis, Marcel Dicke, Karol Barragán Fonseca.
